Cambridge-based Walero produces racing drivers’ base layers using temperature-regulating technology originally developed for astronauts.
The Outlast fibres in the company’s unique fabric help to regulate core body temperature and reduce perspiration, which in turn reduces driver heart rates and respiration rates. This means that driver performance can be increased due to reduced fatigue and heat stress. The base layers are SFI and FIA rated, meaning they can be used at all levels of international motorsport.
The company’s big break in the USA came at the Performance Race Industry Show (PRI 2017) in Indianapolis, where Walero signed an agreement with HMS Motorsport as its official North American distributor.
HMS supplies racewear and safety equipment to race teams all over North America and beyond. Its close ties with both professional and amateur levels of motorsport include series such as NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar, SVRA, Formula Drift, and many club level organisations.
Says Walero’s founder and director Fiona James: “Breaking into the USA has been one of our goals since we launched the company at Autosport International in Jan 2015. To have been able to achieve this in less than three years, and to be partnered with such a prestigious company as HMS is incredible. It is very fitting to be launching this partnership at PRI, one of the world’s leading motorsport shows in historic Indianapolis.”
Joe Marko, HMS president, adds: “HMS is proud to work with Walero on this exciting new product line. Our strength is working with partners having technologically advanced products - Walero certainly meets that criteria. It is a perfect fit to our portfolio of innovative safety products.”
