Wilkinson to cut through paper processes on voice systems
1 min read
Retail giant Wilkinson has placed an order worth over £1.4 million with its distribution partner Psion Teklogix for a warehouse picking system using Vocollect Voice technology running on the Workabout Pro Speech multi-purpose data collection terminal.
It’s the largest order ever for the system, which is set to go live at Wilkinson’s two main distribution centres at Magor, South Wales, and Manton Wood, Worksop in time for the next Christmas rush.
Between them, the two logistics centres provide Wilkinson with more than 2.3 million square feet of storage space, and house some 25,000 SKU serving 283 stores around the UK.
The new technology will replace Wilkinson’s paper-based system and the company believes it will deliver a return on investment within just 10 months –based solely on forecast increases in productivity. Anticipated gains in stock control and order selection accuracy are expected to shorten the ROI time further.
Says Simon Lowe, Wilkinson’s head of supply chain: “Psion Teklogix was able to demonstrate such a compelling ROI that there was no reason not to proceed with adoption of the system immediately.”
