The BCC, along with co-owners the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), took the 94,500 sq ft premises to market in September 2015. Following a competitive tendering process, Trebor won the rights to build on the plot, which will be named ‘Apollo’. Building work is set to be completed by the end of 2016.
A Local Development Order, allowing fast-track planning permission for light industrial and R&D developments, has sped up the process. John Clancey, leader of Birmingham City Council, said the investment “illustrates the confidence in Birmingham’s advanced manufacturing sector”.
The AMH is a shared working industrial estate designed to attract manufacturing firms and jobs to the area. Firms who have already set up operations at the 4.7 acre AMH include HydraForce Hydraulics, who were the first to commit to the site in 2014. The company now employs 500 people in the area and uses the AMH as its European headquarters.
Global tool manufacturer Guhring is also working on a 50,000 square feet factory, including R&D and manufacturing operations, that is due for completion by January 2017.
