Fujitsu Siemens Computers laucnhed the world’s first zero-Watt PC yesterday at Hannover’s CeBIT: a machine that consumes no energy in off-mode or hibernating, yet remains administrable.
The company says its world-leading green IT will be available in the Esprimo E7935 and Esprimo P7935 in the summer of this year.
According to the latest Gartner research, companies with 2,500 PCs can save more than $40,000 a year by using PC power management activation – and another $6,500 by turning off or unplugging machines while not in use. However, that doesn’t happen because they fear they will lose productivity as updates then need to be carried out during working hours.
With its zero-watt technology, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has solved this dilemma. Even though it does not use any power in off or hibernation mode, the PC remains administrable during a pre-configured time slot and can receive software updates.
Incidentally, stand-by consumption is not the only green argument for this PC. Other environmentally considerate features include a highly efficient power supply with up to 89% efficiency, which makes it compliant with the requirements of Energy Star 5.0, as well as halogen-free main boards, a switched monitor outlet and the use of the new power-saving Intel chipset and processors.
