Yamaha Motors says it has deployed GXS Trading Grid in Japan and North America to achieve real-time visibility into its global logistics operations for repair parts.
The system covers its motorcycle, marine and power products, taking in production, sales sites and business partners worldwide. Yamaha said it needed a solution that could integrate seamlessly with its global proprietary FAST-web electronic ordering system.
GXS Logistics Visibility has now been deployed as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) based solution, and connected the to FAST-web.
The system now gathers location and product information, including parts numbers, quantities and packaging configurations, at each step in the logistics process – including factory inspection, shipping point, loading, customs clearance and delivery.
“Logistics operations are all about real-time data and control,” comments Yoshiyuki Tanaka, country manager of GXS Japan. “Without those elements the logistics process becomes a black hole devoid of insight and visibility, where guesswork is standard practice.
“Yamaha Motor is leading the charge in the automotive industry in better managing the distribution of repair parts, a common difficulty for companies in this industry.”
