Yorkshire manufacturing firm Hiley Engineering, which designs and fabricates bespoke conveyor systems for the food industry – has been nominated for the government's 'Made by Britain initiative in recognition of its manufacturing abilities by Halifax Labour MP Linda Riordan.
Recently launched by Business Secretary Vince Cable, the Made by Britain project takes its inspiration from the hugely successful Great Exhibition of 1851 and each of the UK's 650 MPs have been challenged to search for examples of manufacturing ingenuity and innovation in their constituencies, decide upon the leading candidate and nominate them for the scheme.
Initially MPs nominations will be shown on an online interactive map, with a view to expanding the project, possibly with a major exhibition, to coincide with next year's Olympics and Diamond Jubilee.
The company said its nomination was the culmination of an exciting 12 months, which has seen its national and international profile heightened on the back of a number of major overseas orders.
Managing director Mark Hiley (pictured with Linda Riordan) said the company was "incredibly proud" to have been nominated for the project.
