To commemorate its 125th anniversary, safety equipment and workwear supplier Arco set a challenge for its workforce to undertake 125 good deeds and raise £125,000 for charity in 12 months.
With the year now over, Arco reports its target was exceeded. Staff rose to the challenge and undertook 268 good deeds, they raised £180,131, supported 200 charities and volunteered 1,200 hours during company time.
As well as local support through its 40-branch network, the Arco board also made three donations of £10,000 each to Help for Heroes, the NSPCC and the Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund.
The first of Arco's 125 good deeds was to assist deaf children in the developing world by donating 1% of the sales of its E-gard ear plug range to the charity Sound Seekers.
Thomas Martin and Nick Hildyard, joint MDs, commented: "Arco people are always enthusiastic, supportive and up for a challenge but we were astonished at how readily everyone embraced these initiatives to celebrate our 125th anniversary, with a variety of events taking place throughout the year and across the country. Throughout our history we have supported our surrounding communities but this extra activity during our 125th year makes us proud to be leading such a dynamic and committed organisation."
