Industrial engine powers improvement in forklift performance

Crown Lift Truck's latest launch, the C-5 gas-powered forklift truck, is driven by a John Deere industrial engine, rather than an automotive type, which Crown says provides greater reliability and enables longer service intervals.
Other features on the 2t to 3.2t capacity trucks are build quality – the panels are steel, not plastic – and a braking system offering service intervals of 3,000 hours. Crown says the C-5 will "reinvent expectations of what is achievable with a gas truck".
Crown engineers worked with John Deere to develop an exclusive 2.4-litre LPG industrial engine. The durable, low-maintenance unit has a cast iron head, which is better at absorbing heat than aluminium, so making it less likely to warp. An inbuilt oil cooler, larger oil sump and an over-sized oil filter all help extend service life, with an oil change required every 1,000 hours.
The cooling system is also designed for industrial applications and features a dual open-core radiator to separate engine and transmission cooling. For applications with high levels of dust and debris, an optional on-demand cooling system can be fitted, which has a reverse fan operation to clear debris from the radiator on start up.
