One-acre warehouse roof goes solar

A Midlands-based business has won a million-pound contract to install what could be the UK's biggest solar power project.
Renewable energy business Going Solar will fit around 2,200 photovoltaic (PV) panels to warehouse roofs in Ipswich, Suffolk, which will span more than one acre. The installation starts this month and will finish in early March, and it will generate up to 500kW of power - enough to supply 100 homes.
In its bid for the project, the company fought off competition from larger, more established organisations and director Charles Houston (pictured, left, with co-director Andy Perkins) said: "We're delighted to have been selected for this project, especially as large solar PV is new to the UK".
He added: "Although it will be our largest contract to date, we're confident that we've the right approach and expertise to meet the challenges of this vast installation."
Going Solar provides large solar PV systems as well as renewable energy systems for medium-to-large businesses and organisations. Other services include grant advice, system design, project commissioning and maintenance.
