Protect forks and loads

Sometimes a simple, low-cost solution is unveiled which can make a difference to equipment lifetime cost and here is one product which does just that- Jayline's fork protectors

The protectors fit neatly into the heel of the forks and prevent them from dragging on the ground. They have a patented design and are made in the UK from cast steel. A forklift truck's forks will usually wear most around the blade and the 'heel' area. Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), the forks are deemed illegal if they are more than 10% worn and the truck should not be operated. The protectors can be used to extend the working life of the forks and reduce the likelihood of having a truck out of operation while waiting for its forks to be upgraded. Jayline's Peter Kimberley says: "Even the smallest pair of forks costs upwards of £300, and the savings made by not having to stop using a truck for a day or several days while waiting for new forks to be fitted is even more significant for most operators." Jayline also offer load protection pads, which help to minimise product damage. Made in the UK from heavy duty moulded rubber, the protectors provide a cushioned barrier between the load and the forks. As the pallet is picked up, the protector prevents the load from hitting the forks or the fork carriage with sufficient force to cause damage to the load. Available in a choice of sizes to fit 4" (105mm), 5" (130mm), 6" (160mm) and 8" (200mm) forks, the protectors are suitable for use with a range of materials handling equipment, including counterbalanced and warehouse trucks. The load protectors are quickly fitted using a simple yet robust strapping system and their slim profile means that a fork truck's load handling capacity is not compromised by their use.
