During lockdown, manufacturers' concerns will primarily be around furloughing staff, keeping operations going and how to adhere to social distancing advice. All this means the age-old challenge of skilling your staff may take a back seat. We spoke to Stephen Mitchell, director of apprenticeships at Make UK, as well as apprentices Cammie Tarrant (Collins Aerospace) and Richard Pinnell (KUKA), to learn more about how Make UK's Technology Hub in Birmingham has adapted to the coronavirus pandemic by taking its teaching online - and ask whether manufacturers should be looking to digital means for training the next generation.
