3D publishing for CAD re-use gets even better

3D publishing applications developer Lattice Technology, which uses the ultra-compressed XVL format, has released an update to XVL Studio now at v6.3, with new 3D parts editing, annotations and dimensioning tools.

Ultra-compressed XVL reduces 3D CAD files to lightweight documents that can be viewed, measured and annotated outside the design department – in fact throughout a company. Lattice reckons XVL Studio solves the common multi-CAD problem by allowing users to assemble models from different CAD systems and then automatically create new XVL-based assemblies. It is smart: XVL Studio products enable the sharing of intelligent 3D content throughout manufacturing using the free XVL Player as well HTML, Microsoft Office and PDF. V6.3 brings enhanced tools for editing of 3D data and improvements in the measurement interface, as well as the dimensioning and annotation tools. “After the design department approves a model, the 3D data can be refined and re-purposed for other disciplines,” says Bill Barnes, general manager, Lattice Technology. “This re-use of 3D data in animated assembly instructions, lightweight 3D drawings and technical illustrations is key in many global manufacturing operations. “The products allow non-CAD users to access the 3D data rapidly, without having to constantly revert back to the design team for assistance. Using XVL Studio has allowed our customers to realise process improvements and cost savings across their enterprises.”
