ADS said: "Exports generate 91% of turnover for the UK's aerospace industry, enabling companies to invest in the R&D and skills that increase productivity. UK aerospace exports to Europe have grown by 60% in the past five years, while exports to the rest of the world including North America, China and the Middle East are up by 40%."
Paul Everitt (pictured), CEO of ADS Group, added: "The UK aerospace industry is helping to meet increasing global demand for new aircraft. The first half of 2015 has seen a record number of new aircraft produced, adding an extra £2 billion of value for the UK economy compared to 2014 levels.
"The UK aerospace industry has seen its productivity rise by 50% during the last five years and this improvement is helping to maintain UK market share despite intense competition from established and emerging aerospace economies. Today's figures demonstrate that Government and Industry's long-term approach to investment and partnership are delivering for the UK."
During the first half of 2015, 685 new aircraft – almost four a day - rolled off the global production line, equating to around £11bn to the national economy, a rise of £2bn compared with last year. These levels of delivery are the highest for the first six months of any year.
The current backlog for aircraft stands at 12,868 equating to nine years work-in-hand. Record levels of demand for single-aisle aircraft is driving the backlog, with 10,183 currently on order.
