Aerial design and performance gets mathematical boost

Wireless antennas designer and builder SkyCross says it hopes new work with Mathcad simulation software combined with Pro/Engineer CAD/CAM/CAE will enable it to optimise performance earlier in the design phase, cutting development lead times and costs.

The company is currently piloting Mathcad 14.0 and Pro/Engineer integration, which it believes will enable mathematical parameters derived in Mathcad worksheets to be used to drive Pro/Engineeer geometry directly. SkyCross has been using Mathcad – now owned by Pro/Engineer developer PTC – since 2003 to optimise design requirements of its wireless antennas. With hundreds of wireless technology options available for each design requirement, it helps engineers evaluate the best combination for aesthetics and predictable reception fast and efficiently. Additionally, Mathcad’s documentation enables the company’s RF engineers to communicate engineering calculations across its distributed engineering and manufacturing sites in the US, China and Korea. “We constantly strive to develop and deliver innovative RF and antenna technology,” says Dr Chris Morton, CEO of SkyCross. “PTC solutions enable SkyCross engineers to develop the kind of next-generation designs that the market demands while also enabling us to remain committed to our partners production schedules.”
