Alquist Consulting says it is "amazed and delighted" to have taken the Infrastructure Innovation of the year award for its Celsius data centre energy monitoring system just months after its launch.
"Celsius is a high-definition energy monitoring system that uses a fibre-optic cable as a high-resolution temperature sensor," explains Andrew Jones, managing director of Alquist.
High resolution is the result of this cable to measure temperature at one meter intervals, so providing overall and spot readings throughout data centres.
Jones says that cost savings come from allowing data centre temperatures to rise to 25—30 degrees, resulting in a significant decrease in air conditioning energy consumption, currently estimated at a staggering three percent of the UK's energy demand.
