Systems that help organisations to operate more efficiently, simulate large crowds, and save time and money in healthcare are among projects that have reached the finals in the UK IT Industry Awards 2011.
The annual Awards organised and run by BCS (the Chartered Institute for IT) and Computing, are widely viewed as a platform for the profession to celebrate best practice, innovation and excellence.
"Our Awards are central to our mission to recognise the innovation and professionalism of those working in IT and I'm delighted that every year we have such a variety of high quality entries," says BCS chief executive David Clarke.
And he adds: "I'd like to congratulate all of the finalists: the competition to reach this stage of our awards is tough."
The Awards cover 22 categories including: project, organisation, technology and individual excellence. They feature awards such as Security Innovation of the Year, Small IT Department of the Year, Business Project of the Year and CIO of the Year, plus a new Innovation and Entrepreneurship award.
"Once again this year, the finalists reveal how IT impacts on every aspect of today's society but equally importantly this year," comments Clarke.
"They also show how IT is helping organisations to operate more efficiently, which is particularly pertinent as more and more organisations look to make savings in these tough economic times."
The Awards judging now moves into its second stage and the finalists now face interview and presentation sessions with judges, as they compete for the title of winner in their category.
The winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony on 10 November, at Battersea Park Arena.
