Large rotating electrical machinery manufacturer ATB Morley expects to increase design productivity when it implements Autodesk Inventor Series and Autodesk Productstream design data management.
The company, which serves the mining industry, also says it will be able to improve data communication between the design office and shop floor and maximise design data re-use.
ATB Morley technical manager Pete Ramsden says he wanted to migrate from CoCreate OneSpace 2D drafting software to full 3D. He says the Autodesk solution was selected in particular because of its parametric technology, its weld module and its industry standing.
“We wanted to move to 3D design and recognised that it would be opportune to implement data management at the same time, extending the benefits further,” he says.
“Our main aim is to increase design throughput, meeting the need to continually develop new products. All our products are bespoke but we want to be able to re-use as much data as possible to create templates, helping get these products to market faster.”
It’s a somewhat surprising choice given that ATB’s Austrian parent company is on UGS systems, but Ramsden says: “Autodesk’s strong market hold, combined with the fact that all our main customers are users, made it the most obvious choice.”
Autodesk partner Imass Design Solutions will carry out the implementation.
