Smethwick-based manufacturer Baylis Automotive has successfully secured a £35m contract to supply high-level assemblies over the next seven years. The order will help almost double the firm's turnover to around £14.5m a year from 2014 and onwards.
The contract was won as a result of work Baylis carried out with its global clients to develop products to set new, challenging standards in air pollution emitted from trucks and commercial vehicles. With Euro VI standards becoming a legal requirement throughout Europe on 31 December 2013, all vehicles will need to comply with more stringent emissions.
Baylis Automotive believes it is well placed to help customers meet the new legislation.
Managing director Raj Desai (left in picture with fellow directors Tony Poyner and John Lucas) said the business' turnover would almost double from its current £7.5m per annum to around £14.5m per annum from 2014. This included other business wins, which had already been secured. The contract secures employment for the company's 120-strong existing work force and will create jobs.
The contract will also result in a further expansion to the site, having already expanded the current site from 42,000 sq ft to 55,000 sq ft in the last six months. It is expected that a further 15,000 sq ft will be added over the coming months, taking the site to 70,000 sq ft. In addition, Baylis Automotive has already spent £300,000 on plant investments and set aside a further £250,000.
Desai added: "I am absolutely delighted with the win and it's a real credit to the already committed work force, which have helped the business set new quality standards and make a contribution to the environment."
