Better information, streamlined production, shorter lead times and reduced stock are among expectations at Belgian cigar producer J Cortès from its QAD Global Enterprise Edition (formerly Mfg/Pro) ERP system, due to go live by the end of this year.
The firm, which is still owned by the Vandermarliere family, produces over 400 million cigars annually in Belgium, Indonesia and Sri Lanka – with exports to 60 countries around the word.
It is moving from custom applications that require considerable manual data entry and conversion, and are error prone. Steady growth had led to a situation where the existing systems could no longer cope.
Wim Thijssens, operations director at Neos Sigarenfabriek and J Cortès Cigars, says: “By using QAD GXE we can be certain that we have accurate information on the different stages in the production process. From purchasing and planning to production and stock, QAD GXE constantly provides real-time data that is entered and managed centrally.
“This forms the basis for streamlining our business processes, which is expected to lead to shorter lead times and less stock. In this way we hope to improve the efficiency of our business and at the same time reduce operational costs.”
