The UK's largest timber sawmill says it expects to improve forecasting, boost customer service and reduce stock when it goes live with Infor SCM Demand Planning software.
Howard Jones, financial director at BSW Timber, says the system will also help to manage seasonal peaks and troughs in demand for its products.
Reasons for the implementation, he says, include a combination of rapid growth through acquisition, and escalating customer demands, which resulted in increased complexity at the company.
The existing spreadsheet-based planning system could no longer support increased demands being placed on the business – so driving a need for an advanced supply chain solution.
The software, says Jones, will increase visibility of the company's 6,000 SKUs which span fencing, decking, pallets and cladding for large DIY retailers, builders' merchants and specialist outlets. This, combined with improved accuracy in its demand forecasts, will help to reduce inventory and cut costs.
"The acquisition of a number of additional production sites, combined with continued pressure to meet escalating customer SLAs has added complexity to our supply chain in recent years," comments Jones.
"Infor SCM Demand Planning will provide us with better visibility of customer demand, facilitating quicker responses to market changes, maximising efficiency and helping us to plan for the seasonality which is inherent in our industry," he adds.
