Truck manufacturer BT Europe, part of Toyota Industries, is to upgrade its Intentia Movex ERP system to the new Lawson M3 Java-based Lawson M3 5.2 version, due to go live at the end of next year.
The system will handle sales, service and distribution, providing information for 1,400 employees in 16 countries around Europe.
It’s about unifying and improving the co-ordination of BT Europe’s systems and business processes at its various locations to achieve operational and management efficiencies.
It’s also about improving employees’ access to information and providing modern tools able to support expected expansion and ultimately profitability.
“We expect that the new business system will increase efficiency, and increase our sales, such as in our after-sales services,” says Bo Sivenius, information systems manager at BT Europe. “This will also provide a greater visibility into our business processes.”
Interestingly, the company used Lawson’s Opportunity Analyser strategic management tool to identify and qualify financial and non-financial gains before making its commitment.
It’s that system that proved the potential for improvement and helped prioritise projects. For example, BT Europe now sees the opportunity to increase sales through the proportion of contracts that also focus on service, and the company also intends to reduce lead times in truck delivery by gaining greater control of customer orders.
Today BT Europe has 1,400 service technicians equipped with handheld computers connected to the existing Movex system. Together with improved logistics around spares, the new system will help the company to provide better, faster service and information.
