Burcas grows precision tooling business on streamlined production system

Precision engineering manufacturer Burcas says that adopting ProgressPlus production control software has significantly increased turnover and improved operational efficiency.

Burcas quality manager Martyn Fearn explains that the Birmingham-based company had been providing precision tooling and cutting tools to the automotive, paper, printing and general engineering sector. However, when it entered the aerospace and defence sector, offering subcontract machining of complex critical components and precision tooling, it found its MRP system for production and accounts needed upgrading. ProgressPlus software, developed by Glasgow-based IT specialist Berkeley Myles, was implemented to streamline, automate and integrate management and control of shopfloor production and administrative processes. “We looked at several systems but ProgressPlus was the obvious choice, due to its flexibility, robustness and ease of use,” says Fearn. “ProgressPlus has helped us improve as a business by giving us full traceability throughout the lifecycle of the production process.” And he adds: “The system has increased our operational efficiency and allowed us to grow our turnover by making us more streamlined, efficient and compliant with the AS/EN 9100 standard.”
