Coventry-based precision machining and mould tool making firm Burnsall Engineering says it expects major improvements in design-to-finish lead times and better machine utilisation from its Autodesk Inventor software.
The operation can now transfer 3D designs straight to machine programming, so saving on time and resources.
General manager Alan Bratby says that using its previous ECS Concerto CAD system, it couldn’t produce 3D models in the design office – causing bottlenecks in programming and leading to difficulties with maintaining machine efficiency and delivery schedules.
“With the increasing complexity of our work, we need to use every way available to maintain our competitiveness,” he says.
“To produce a 3D model previously we had to first design and fully detail the complete mould tool and then recreate this in another system to allow machine programming.
“Now, almost all our work is designed in Inventor and we anticipate 100% utilisation within six months. Consequently, we are confident of seeing serious progress and savings within the next two to three months.”
Andrew Heyes of Alta Systems, the Autodesk reseller that managed the deal, adds: “Using Inventor and seamlessly transferring data will bring significant time savings, enabling Burnsall Engineering to get products to market faster. It will also minimise opportunities for human error.”
