Industrial services provider C&D Group is currently implementing IFS Applications project-based ERP, ready for roll-out to some 20 sites around the UK to streamline its business processes and support growth.
The contract was signed late last year, and for C&D – which manages large industrial projects in power generation, oil and gas, engineering, nuclear, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, marine and offshore construction – it marks the move away from multiple disparate legacy systems.
Modules being implemented include IFS' Sales Contract, Project Management, Purchasing, Payroll, Financial, Stock Control and Document Management modules – due for use by more than 150 managerial and supervisory project staff. Deployment is set for completion by summer 2011.
Michael Brown, transformation project manager at C&D, says the firm recognised the reporting benefits, efficiencies and visibility and centralisation that flow from a single, fully integrated, multi-company and multi site system.
At a micro level, he also cites secure access for key employees, better data protection and enhanced business processes as among major improvements, leading to more efficient use of resources.
By way of example, Brown explains that staff often work in hostile environments, including asbestos sites and nuclear power plants. "Being able to accurately monitor employees' exposure to these environments is absolutely essential," he says, indicating that the IFS system was best able to support this kind of requirement.
He also cites the new user interface in IFS Applications 7.5, which, he believes, will aid adoption of the system.
"Usability is a must, and the IFS Applications interface is simple, intuitive and user-friendly," comments Brown. "We predict it will help us to significantly streamline activity and improve time management."
