Chancellor George Osborne was briefed on advanced manufacturing techniques during a visit to a Jaguar Land Rover plant in Solihull.
Osborne heard how the 62 year old site will play a key role in producing future vehicles based around Jaguar Land Rover's advanced lightweight technologies.
Osborne met with key plant personnel and graduates and apprentices during the tour.
The chancellor heard how Jaguar Land Rover plans multi-billion investment in UK sites including Solihull.
Osborne saw vehicles bound for China where Jaguar Land Rover aims to sell 40,000 cars in 2011.
Jaguar CEO, Ralf Speth said: "It is encouraging that the government recognises the critical role the automotive industry plays in supporting economic growth in the UK. Jaguar Land Rover is investing heavily in a future that will see significant growth."
