Jaguar Land Rover has signed a deal with PLM (product lifecycle management) software developer Dassault Systèmes that formalises cooperation in developing "industry-leading product creation solutions".
The agreement, signed by Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr Ralf Speth and Dassault Systèmes president and CEO Bernard Charlès, will, say the pair, see digital 3D simulation and development tools transform Jaguar Land Rover's product development processes.
"We look to this association to bring significant technical and commercial benefits to Jaguar Land Rover," comments Speth. "Dassault Systèmes wll provide the processes and tools we need to more efficiently develop and create vehicles."
The announcement follows an 18 month evaluation period focusing on how Dassault Systèmes' and others' tools could work with and improve the PMTI (process, method, tools, information) environment at the cars giant.
In the short term, Jaguar Land Rover will roll out Dassault Systèmes' V6 for PLM, which Speth believes will increase operational efficiency and speed up Jaguar Land Rover's processes around product development, while also dealing with some of its complexity issues.
That is on top of Dassault Systèmes' existing use of its Catia, Delmia, Simulia, and 3Dvia PLM 2.0 software, which handles everything from product simulation to manufacturing engineering.
Beyond this, Jaguar Land Rover and Dassault Systèmes engineers are to work together on new processes and solutions aimed at the requirements of next generation vehicles. Speth suggests that a focus on commonality and integration, as well as innovation, will further increase the car maker's efficiencies while simultaneously reducing costs.
