Cranfield University has launched a new masters course in Manufacturing Technology and Management.

The MSc in Manufacturing Technology and Management "draws on the University's world-leading expertise in manufacturing to develop professionals with the ability to transform knowledge into action", Cranfield said. Cranfield said a significant number of highly trained manufacturing engineers will be essential to provide the leadership skills necessary to deliver the government's vision for developing high tech UK manufacturing The rapid growth in technology also presented an opportunity for re-skilling for professionals already in industry, the university added. The course will help Cranfield cement its reputation as a leader in postgraduate manufacturing education, Cranfield claimed. The university's School of Management has for more than 20 years profiled the university's specialisations via its UK-wide Best Factory Awards programme and was recently selected to lead three of the nine new countrywide Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Centres for Innovative Manufacturing . Cranfield's Professor David Stephenson said the university worked closely with a range of organisations in the manufacturing sector, conducting cutting edge research in high value manufacturing. He went on: "The university is therefore in the unique position of being able to rapidly identify and respond to skills shortages in industry. This course has been designed to develop the right people with the right skills to respond to the needs of industry today and in the future."
