Crusher maker builds custom machines faster on integrated PLM, CAD and ERP systems

Swadlincote-based mobile crusher, screen and shredder machines manufacturer Extec says that improved data transfer and shared information between its PLM and ERP systems are helping it to shave significant time off development and launch cycles.

The company has three design offices working on variants of 11 core machines for the mineral extraction, quarry and recycling industries. For an idea of scale, its there are 32 versions of its flagship S5 model screener and each variant has specifications that are customised. Extec went for an integrated Pulse Technology Systems PLM system with Inventor 3D modelling and Syspro ERP from McGuffie Brunton, using the latter’s e.Net architecture. It means the firm’s designers can drop accurate BoM (bill of materials) information directly into the PLM application, which then outputs the data to Syspro to create works orders. By pulling the data directly into Syspro, the company can link individual customers’ requirements with production costs to produce faster and more accurate quotations. Says Matt Cox, quality manager and senior design engineer at Extec: “The 3D, PLM an ERP integration path is enabling us to look at and work on our Inventor drawings from three different design offices. “We can transfer our design and build data into Syspro for company-wide availability. It gives us greater accuracy of BoM information, using an engineering control sign-off procedure, without having to manually check and re-key information, especially Inventor model configuration and revision level data.”
