Defiance Metal Products goes for Infor Syteline for company-wide lean manufacturing

US-based metal parts and assemblies fabricator Defiance Metal Products (DMP) is to implement Infor ERP SL 8.0, formerly SyteLine, to manage operations at four factories.

Sam Strausbaugh, CFO and co-president of DMP, which serves the truck, transportation and HVAC sectors, says the company chose this system for its industry-specific functionality, which he believes will help standardise operations and lead to lean manufacturing throughout. DMP came across Infor when it acquired Texas-based Central Industrial Supply, an existing Infor customer, which was using Infor ERP SyteLine 5. DMP says it used the software there to help drive lean processes in its production stamping press room. The company used the system’s scheduling and reporting capabilities to implement team-based reporting, improving the efficiency of its assembly area teams and eliminating information silos between buyers and planners in production planning and job scheduling, says Strausbaugh. DMP is now standardising on the latest version of Infor ERP SL for all of its factories, starting with the Texas plant, and a system upgrade. Following that, Strausbaugh says there will be a phased roll-out to the remaining three sites. “DMP has developed a proprietary production system that has helped us achieve consistently high levels of product quality and customer service,” says Strausbaugh. “We needed software that could support that system and the way we do business, and Infor ERP SL stood out. By standardising on the software across our plants, we expect to increase the capacity of each, reduce inventories, and enhance our overall competitiveness.”
