Don’t be fooled by visibility of delivery operations

Mobile systems developer M-Netics is warning of the dangers of complacency in fulfilment, as research commissioned by the logistics specialist reveals that UK manufacturers think they are in control.

Almost half (49%) of the firm's respondents believe they have 'a comprehensive and accurate view of delivery operations, from goods leaving the warehouse to the point of customer delivery'. A further 28% state they have such insight most, if not all, of the time. However, when asked about their confidence in the efficiency of delivery operations, only 9% are confident that delivery operations are as efficient as they can be. Commenting on the results, John Coon, managing director of M-Netics says: "Knowing that an order has been fulfilled and being able to track that through to delivery underpins a huge amount of customer service… "However, it is important not to get complacent and confuse visibility with efficiency." His view: in the current economic climate, businesses need to be "constantly looking for the next source of competitive advantage". Says Coon: "The efficiency gains and improved customer service that better fulfilment and delivery processes can yield are excellent examples."
