Dump your server room and make way for manufacturing

Moving to cloud computing for bulk data processing and storage could allow most manufacturers to cut out server rooms, save space and reduce their carbon footprints.

That's the message from Kell Systems, which advises that, for many manufacturers, the only remaining requirement is, say, a network server. There is a vested interest: Kell makes server cabinets, designed to make running servers in an open office environment feasible. Kell says that in typical usage, its server cabinets reduce server noise by 90% and CO2 emissions by 96.5%, compared to running with a server room. Similarly, they reduce floor space by 90%, operating costs by 98%, and capital costs by up to 80%. Kell claims several manufacturing and engineering clients using its server cabinets, including BAE Systems, General Motors, Honda Formula One Racing Team, Lockheed Martin and Rolls Royce Aerospace
