EEF, the manufacturers' organisation, has appointed Paul Raynes as director of policy from Monday 26 January.
He will be responsible for leading EEF's policy team and "building on its strong track record of representing the interests of manufacturing and engineering companies to Government at regional and national level".
Raynes is currently head of programmes at the Local Government Association where he is responsible for driving the debate on regional economic devolution and working on Local Enterprise Partnerships. He has also developed models for delivery of the reformed welfare system and, was responsible for setting up the newly launched Municipal Bond Agency.
Before this, he worked at HM Treasury, where he served as private secretary to three chief secretaries, as financial attache at the British Embassy in Paris and as a business journalist. He also set up the policy unit at Essex County Council.
