Emerson Power Transmission implements configurator to tame million combinations product range

Emerson Power Transmission has extended its use of online product configurator technology to its Browning Series 7000 gearmotors and reducers, which can be built with than a million combinations of 60,000 CAD model variants.
The company says the system, from Catalog Data Solutions, is now enabling much faster and more accurate selection against customers’ application requirements.
“We wanted an expert system that integrates deep knowledge of the product and makes an advanced user experience readily available, online 24/7 to the designer for selecting and ordering our complex product 3D CAD models,” says Emerson e-business manager Marc Macaluso.
“We chose CDS for rapid delivery, price competitiveness and for the wow factor of its Visual Constraint Feedback technology.
“In a complex product, users usually don’t know the constraints and they almost certainly don’t know the interdependence of those constraints. Visual Constraint Feedback makes you aware of the effects selections have on future choices,” says John Major, CEO of Catalog Data Solutions. “Substance is vital but a high impact GUI; creating strong customer perception is also important for successful adoption.”
