Encryption is not enough to secure data, says BeCrypt

While assured levels of confidentiality can be provided with encryption solutions, on their own they are not enough, warns data security, remote working and disaster recovery solutions developer BeCrypt.

Organisations still need to employ security policies to ensure successful adoption asserts Richard Brooks BeCrypt’s director of sales, making the point that increased use of laptops and removable devices, as well as today’s need to exchange data with partners, makes user compliance for data protection even more important. “Companies and public sector bodies alike are at risk both from unauthorised access and the loss of valuable corporate and personal data. Recent events in the news have highlighted just how real this risk is. “Achieving confidentiality of data through encryption products is straightforward. However, the challenge that organisations face is how to balance the security of data with integrity and availability, particularly as data is exchanged between partner organisations.” He also suggests that a key second challenge is to ensure that companies educate their staff so that they understand the enormity of the potential risks should digital data go astray.
