Engine output rises slightly

UK engine manufacturing output rose by 0.2% in January compared with the same month in 2014, with the production of 206,686 units, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Home demand – which was up 11.2% – drove sector growth.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: "UK engine manufacturing has had a solid start to the year, posting positive growth in January, driven by demand in the home market.

"Manufacturers have invested over £1 billion to UK engine production in recent years, which is expected to yield an increase in output."
