EADS subsidiary Eurocopter says that expansion of is PTC systems into its support services business unit will improve performance and profitability by 50%.
The aircraft manufacturer and aerospace service organisation has now gone live with a new, global spares configuration data management (SCDM) system that, it says, will be key to its service lifecycle management (SLM) approach.
Eurocopter's decision builds on the introduction in 2008 of PTC PLM (product lifecycle management) engineering management technology, which now serves as the backbone of its PHENIX harmonised master product definition platform.
Pascal Gaudry, vice president of the Material and Logistics Service Centre at Eurocopter, explains that EADS has outlined an aggressive vision for increasing its service income to 25% of total revenue by 2020.
"To contribute to this objective, Eurocopter will use SCDM to improve its spare parts data management processes by 50%," states Gaudry.
The system, he says, will help the organisation to focus on high-value services, "initially related to platforms, requiring and developing both customer centricity and product intimacy".
Gaudry asserts that better managing spare parts is just the first milestone in Eurocopter's strategy – making the point that such a huge improvement is indicative of the kind of value achievable through SLM.
And Marc Durand, project sponsor at Eurocopter, confirms that SCDM is a "first step in helping us optimise our spare parts processes."
Next, he says, Eurocopter will expand the system further to manage in-service helicopter configurations, enabling the organisation to offer more tailored customer services.
