NEC Computers has launched a new fault tolerant server, which it says will provide manufacturers with “unprecedented availability of their operations” at the production level.
Dubbed Express5800/320Fa, main features include: ultra-high availability with redundant hot swap hard disks; fault detection with NEC’s GeminiEngine chipset and ExpressScope management system; and Xeon processors with DDR2-400 two-way memory for fast access continuous processing.
Availability claimed is 99,999% – meaning on average less than five minutes unplanned interruption per year. It also holds up to 3 SCSI Ultra 320 Hot Plug disk drives to prevent disruption to running applications, and is designed for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, which is preloaded.
NEC also says that it has used existing technology to simplify maintenance and admin – most notably through the use of a remote management card.
