G’s Fresh Beetroot - winner of the Safe Site Award 2015 – is back after a workplace transport risk assessment identified the need for more robust controls to prevent unauthorised access to busy yard and warehouse areas.
A new yard barrier now controls vehicle and pedestrian site access, and an audio-visual warning announces when pedestrians enter hazardous areas.
British brewer, Hall and Woodhouse is also shortlisted after conducting a complete review of forklift truck operations at its brewery in Blandford St Mary, Dorset.
It has made changes to site and traffic management and layout, as well as fitted trucks with the latest safety enhancements and retrained staff with new, safer practices.
Unilever UK has also been nominated after taking action at its Trafford Park factory, which resulted in greater worker engagement and three years without a forklift truck related accident.
The award, which was launched in 2008 and is presented as one of the prizes at the FLTA’s Annual Awards of Excellence, allows fork lift truck companies from across all sectors to compete to see who has implemented the best initiatives to improve site safety. Heineken UK won the award in 2016.
Other finalists for the Safe Site Award are: Advanced Supply Chain; Airbase; Communisis; Maen Karne Aggregates; Mitsubishi Electric; NHS Scotland; Portrack Handling Safety Initiative; and Rowlinson Knitwear.
The winner for 2017 will be announced at a black-tie ceremony in March.
