Greencore gets cake and eats it

Greencore Cakes & Desserts says it’s already seen a 5% saving on direct labour costs since implementing MVI’s real-time performance management (RPM) suite.

The system, part of CDC Software enterprise systems offering, was installed at Greencore’s £30 million UK manufacturing facility in Hull. According to David Gallagher, operations director, the project is now expected to show a return on investment in less than 12 months. Greencore had developed a management system, which included an operational suite monitoring performance and providing management with data for business decision-making, but plant floor operatives lacked the operational information they needed to make real time decisions. “What we were looking for was a system that was easy to use and would supply actionable information quickly, on the shop floor,” says Gallagher. MVI RPM enables manufacturers to merge automated shop floor data, quality process control and manufacturing performance dashboards as part of a Six Sigma process. “We had a very strong opinion that the system needed to have a holistic approach, which meant it had to connect the shop floor information to our management system. MVI met those requirements and is also the most easy to use system I’ve ever seen,” says Gallagher. “From what I’ve seen so far, I will probably quote this project as the best I have ever managed as operations director of this company – and I’ve bought quite a lot of equipment! MVI RPM is certainly changing the working day for people here and I wholeheartedly endorse it.”
