Honeywell will be racking up its ruggedised mobile computing capabilities, following completion of its acquisition of EMS Technologies.
The mobile networking and satellite communications connectivity solutions was purchased for approximately $491 million.
Darius Adamczyk, president of Honeywell Scanning & Mobility, says that the acquisition is significant for Honeywell's Automation and Control Solutions business (ACS), as well as satellite communications within its Aerospace business.
"By adding EMS Technologies to our business, we will acquire complementary rugged hand-held and vehicle-based products, and expand our presence in warehousing, manufacturing and port segments," states Adamczyk.
"These new products and segments will be growth drivers for our business," he insists, pointing to EMS's Aviation division, which provides terminals, antennas, in-cabin network devices, rugged data storage, and surveillance applications, predominantly for aircraft but also in other data gathering operations.
"Adding EMS products into our aerospace business means that Honeywell can now define and deliver the next big leap in satellite communications technology, a key growth area in aviation," adds Tim Mahoney, president and CEO of Honeywell Aerospace.
