Finnish packaging firm Huhtamäki Oyj, one of the world’s largest, is using enterprise software vendor SSA Global Technologies’ recently launched business process optimisation tool, Process Manager, to help it build a new integrated e-business and shared services infrastructure. Huhtamäki has been running SSG GT’s ERP system across its operations globally since it standardised on BPCS for its larger sites six years ago. The tool is now being used to replace the old project planning methods, with on-line graphical modelling and a repository of organisational knowledge. Riku Lindfors, IS group manager: “We’re now able to plan around our core system more effectively and utilise best practices more easily from one implementation to another – and see how the changes will relate to the business. “For example, Process Manager provides the project management team with all the data to facilitate steering meetings with senior executives.” Process Manager is part of Huhtamäki’s BPCS rollout across five sites in the UK and one in Spain later this year. The firm also expects to use the tool to deploy eBPCS at its US-based operations by mapping out the migration path across all its sites, eventually supporting 1,800 users. “With all the project definitions embedded into Process Manager, any subsequent steps [can be] easily identified and updated,” says Lindfors. “Previously, paper specifications proved cumbersome with revisions difficult to capture. This in turn could often lead to teams getting bogged down with detail or missing key points. “Process Manager remedies this situation by allowing all concerned to actively contribute to the project via a streamlined, collaborative route at their desktop.”
