Imass Design Solutions is merging with Aberdeen-based IM Technical Services (IMTS), and becoming a reseller for Autodesk’s AutoCAD P&ID piping and instrumentation design and drafting software for the process sector.
IMTS specialises in electronic document management, CAD and implementation and support services, particularly for the Scottish oil and gas industry.
The merger builds on Imass’ acquisition of CADlogic in September 2005, which established the company’s presence in Scotland. Adding IMTS’ competency in deploying applications such as AutoCAD, MicroStation and PDMS spreads its application and consulting footprint – and we’re talking about end-to-end services, from consultancy to procurement, installation, configuration and support.
That in turn leads Imass logically into its newly extended process industry design coverage.
Business development director, Colin Watson, says he predicts strong interest in the software, particularly from the Scottish oil and gas sector. “We believe AutoCAD P&ID will be like a breath of fresh air to plant designers used to the complexity of some current software solutions,” he says.
“Because it is based on the AutoCAD platform with an intuitive interface, it will be familiar and straightforward to use for almost all engineers. We estimate that 30% increases in draughting productivity are achievable with AutoCAD P&ID vs traditional CAD draughting. This will help solve problems of skills shortages, as well as ensuring projects are quick to set up and start.”
Commenting on the IMTS merger, he adds: “The merger with IMTS forms part of our strategy to expand the business through both organic and inorganic growth. Together we can exploit our shared expertise in data management, especially in the deployment of the Blue Cielo AutoManager Meridian product set.”
