BAE Systems Military Air and Information (MAI) has selected the new Infor10 ERP system, with its ION middleware and social media-orientated Workspace, to support what it describes as a substantial business transformation programme.
The system, which integrates ERP, business intelligence, barcoding and a supplier commerce portal, will enable BAE Systems MAI to rationalise and standardise its lean business processes, according to Adrian Fallows, head of strategic business systems, BAE Systems MAI.
That will improve operational efficiency and boost performance in delivering and supporting major programmes, such as the Eurofighter Typhoon and F35 Joint Strike Fighter, he states.
"With tighter budgets and greater demands from defence customers around the world, our business is facing significant challenges but also a range of exciting opportunities in all our markets," comments Fallows.
"Supported by Infor10, this transformation programme will drive our competitiveness and ensure BAE Systems MAI is more efficient and responsive to market conditions."
Fallows explains that the new solutions is founded on Infor10 ION, Infor's lightweight middleware, which will connect and integrate applications, enabling the organisation to extract contextual and near real-time information from across the business.
Improved visibility, he says, will accelerate decision-making and enhance the organisation's competitiveness when bidding for new projects. Part of that, he confirms, is the new Workspace, which provides a common look and feel, and single sign-on.
And he adds that BAE Systems MAI expects substantial additional savings through reduced licensing and IT maintenance costs.
