Korean-based industrial giant Doosan is lining up alongside Lexus and Rolex to sponsor The Open Championship for the next five years, starting with the 2010 event in July at the home of golf, St Andrew's.
Doosan is aiming to be one of the top 200 global businesses by 2020 and this sponsorship deal forms an important part of the marketing strategy to support that goal. It is the first Korean company to back The Open, which will be watched by 250,000 at the event and millions more as it is broadcast to 163 nations, including Europe and North America.
"We are delighted to be joining The Open as a patron," says Doosan Infracore UK general manager, Tim Waples. "Our aim is to raise the profile of Doosan, not only for forklifts, but for many of our other business both here in the UK and elsewhere. The Open Championship is one of the most prestigious events in the sporting calendar and Doosan believes this is a great partnership, and a great way to spread the Doosan message."
Aside from the forklift business, group companies include Doosan Babcock (steam generation manufacturer), Doosan IMGB (forging and casting), Skoda Power (plant turbine manufacturer) and Doosan Infracore International (construction equipment, including Bobcat).
