Yorkshire-based Longley Farm, which produces cream, yoghurt and cottage cheese, says that using in-sourced procurement services from Vendigital has massively improved its purchasing.
Says managing director Jim Dickinson: “Through in-sourcing, we’ve gained access to purchasing specialists and adopted a new range of approaches to buying. Vendigital provides market knowledge, research, purchasing skills and the latest procurement techniques to compliment our Buyers.”
He makes the point that in today’s inflationary market, coping with increases in commodity prices without simply passing them onto customers is a major challenge.
To this end and to maintain sustainable development in the business, Longley Farm has focused on increasing efficiencies and reducing costs through investments in new equipment and innovative processes.
However, using Vendigital, the company has also successfully reduced its direct materials costs on a wide range of packaging and on ingredients such as fruit and sugar.
And Dickinson says that the organisation has also helped to improve the purchase of diesel for all the dairy’s vehicles, using a fuel index as the basis of the contract.
