This celebration of the manufacturing sector was hosted on Make UK’s third annual National Manufacturing Day. The manufacturing sector contributes significantly to the UK economy, with a diverse and exciting array of job roles and opportunities for young people to consider. On National Manufacturing Day businesses across the UK throw open their doors to showcase these roles and celebrate the diversity of the sector.

Lush, who are currently recruiting for seasonal support staff, highlighted their values as a fresh and handmade company to the young attendees. Students from Queen Elizabeth’s School, Magna Academy, St Edwards School, SWRAC and Linwood College experienced manufacturing production making their own products in Lush’s Bubbles Department. They also met leaders from a variety of specialist areas including Microbiology, Buying, Process Improvement, 3D Printing and Design, Digital Technology and Spa. Finally, they explored Lush’s Green Hub, the brand's pioneering environmental waste management facility to find out more about creating a circular economy for waste, and how they can build careers in the energy and sustainability sector.
“Our students always thoroughly enjoy and benefit from their experience on National Manufacturing Day at Lush. It is wonderful for students to see how many different career options there are within this area of LUSH, and to engage them in the huge amount of learning opportunities is a highlight of the school year,” said Hayley Jones, Careers Advice and Guidance Manager at Queen Elizabeth's School.
Lush, the inventors of the bath bomb, have been manufacturing in Poole since 1995 and are one of the area's largest manufacturing employers, with 690 permanent staff working for the fresh and handmade cosmetics manufacturer. Using intricate handmade techniques and fresh ethically sourced ingredients Lush Manufacturing produces over 33 million products in the UK each year, including 13 million world famous bath bombs.
