The independent charity has been delivering a wide range of high quality education, training and consultancy services for manufacturing businesses large and small for the past 21 years.
Frank Hayden, an associate partner with the Institute, has been appointed as Director of Consultancy with a remit to grow the range and content of bespoke consultancy for big manufacturing names. He will also continue to undertake high-level consultancy work directly for McKinsey.
Frank has led the strategic and operational transformation of some great engineering and manufacturing businesses, including Land Rover, BMW, Airbus, BAE Systems, and Rolls Royce – taking them from high performing businesses to world-class benchmarks.
Former head of business development Mark Leeson has been appointed Director of Operations and will be tasked with expanding the Institute’s education and training arm which delivers programmes from shop floor to boardroom.
Mark, a former commercial brand manager at learndirect, joined the Institute three years ago as a digital marketing executive.
Liam Ferguson, who has been a trustee and director of The Manufacturing Institute for almost 20 years, will take on an executive role to oversee the restructure.
Liam has over 25 years’ experience and a proven track record of transforming manufacturing businesses and is Chairman of Chorley-based North West Projects, a specialist nuclear design consultancy. He was previously a director of a multi-national engineering group and Chairman of Vindon Healthcare plc.
He said: “The Manufacturing Institute has a great track record of building links with big business, advising manufacturing businesses of all sizes and supplying bespoke education and training.
“This restructure is all about building on our successes in the North West and expanding in other areas including Yorkshire, Humberside, the West Midlands and the North East.
“In the current economic cycle it is not realistic to rely on Government and European grants so we need to be a self-sustaining operation. I’m delighted that we have such a talented and committed team on board as we take The Manufacturing Institute in a new direction.”
The Manufacturing Institute will continue to operate from its Trafford Park base but will now use state-of-the art training facilities at Rutherford Point in Chorley’s Matrix Park.
