Budding young manufacturers from North Manchester are set to discover if they have what it takes to work in the high-tech world of modern manufacturing, when they compete in the McBride Make It Enterprising Challenge today.
The event will challenge 13 and 14 year-olds from 11 schools across Greater Manchester to set up their own mini-manufacturing businesses and design, build and market a new 'MultiLiquid' cleaning product and dispenser for a specific customer group of their choosing.
The event is a collaboration between The Manufacturing Institute and McBride, Europe's leading supplier of private label household and personal care products.
It is part of a series of themed challenges which The Manufacturing Institute is supporting through its 'Make It' campaign, which aims to attract the brightest and best new talent into manufacturing by promoting the sector as an exciting and rewarding career option for young people.
The Make-It project is also supported by the Mercure Norton Grange Hotel in Rochdale.
On the day, teams will complete a series of tasks, each taking on job roles from managing director to operations managers through to finance, sales and marketing managers.
Teams will also be tasked with developing a brand for their company before pitching their fully costed ideas in a Dragons' Den-style presentation to McBride managers, who will judge the winning team, runner-up team and also give special awards to outstanding individuals.
Participating schools in the challenge are: The Albion Academy, Salford; Cardinal Langley RC High School, Middleton; Crompton House CofE School, Oldham ; The Derby High School, Bury; Falinge Park High School, Rochdale; Holy Family RC & CE College, Heywood; Middleton Technology College, Middleton; Mossley Hollins High School, Ashton-under-Lyne; Prestwich Arts College, Prestwich; The Radclyffe School, Chadderton; and Stretford High School, Stretford.
