Manufacturing helps boost UK production output

An increase of 2.7% in manufacturing helped the UK increase production output by 3.2% between October 2012 and October 2013, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The main manufacturing components contributing to the increase during this period were the manufacture of transport equipment; other manufacturing and repair; and the manufacture of wood, paper products and printing. The largest upward contribution between October 2012 and October 2013 was, once again, from the manufacture of transport equipment, which rose by 16.8%. Most of this strength came from the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi trailers. Manufacturing output increased by 0.4% between September 2013 and October 2013 and was the largest contributor to total production growth.
