Batley-based tool and mouldmaking firm Moorland Toolmaking is taking on progressively larger projects for its clients after upgrading its hardware across its CAD/CAM office.
Although Moorland has been using Delcam’s CAD/CAM software for several years now, mostly on small, automotive subcontract tooling jobs, the firm didn’t have the confidence to take on larger contracts. But as part of its “Investment in Technology” programme, the firm has now upgraded its hardware (PCs and CAD/CAM terminals) to take full advantage of Delcam’s software.
One of Moorland’s recent customer successes was supplying the compression tooling for a new 10-tonne ‘Klix’ drinks vending machine project from machine developer Four Square.
The work at Moorland started from a CAD file sent by the client. The external surface wasn’t a problem but internal details of the door had to be changed in order to produce the most efficient mould design.
Using Delcam’s PowerShape software helped this by enabling changes to be incorporated in the CAD model quickly after client meetings. Delcam’s Peter Dickin explains: “In the past, Moorland have failed to get the best out of Delcam’s software by not running it on more powerful, faster computers. They’ve addressed it now and they’ve won further orders from Four Square as a result of this successful project.”
